South Florida women upset Mountaineers 2-1 at home

USF's leading scorer, Noelle Pineiro [left], secured a big win for the Bulls on Sunday with an assist and then a goal to defeat West Virginia (4-3-4) in front of just 267 at the USF Soccer Stadium. Pineiro, a sophomore from Bradenton, has been USF's most consistent source of scoring this season, while the team has lacked the finishing touch at times. Noelle now has fourteen points on the season from six goals and two assists.

West Virgina out shot the Bulls (4-4-2) in the first half 8-4, but it was South Florida who had something to show for it come half time. In the third minute of play, Pineiro struck a free kick from the left wing that found Alexandra Eagle, who put it past the Mountaineer keeper for her first goal as a Bull. USF's senior goalkeeper, Mallori Lofton-Malachi, made five first half saves to preserve that 1-0 lead going to the break.

After a long stretch without any scoring, South Florida's second leading scorer Chelsea Klotz, sprung Pineiro in the WVU penalty area for a close range shot and USF was up 2-0 with twelve minutes to play. The Mountaineers were able to pull one back in the eighty-third minute, but despite out shooting the Bulls 12-7 in the game, West Virginia went home with a loss.

Make your plans to catch the Bulls this coming weekend as they try to extend their three game unbeaten streak with a pair of home games. Friday night they host Seton Hall and Sunday afternoon Rutgers will visit USF Soccer Stadium.
